Mike Murphy

Solicitor

Mike was admitted as a solicitor in 1999 and joined SLS in 2007 having previously worked in private practice and for the Systech Group, a specialist construction consultancy. He has considerable litigation and adjudication experience and on the non-contentious side has a particular interest in commercial reviews and advice and contract negotiations and drafting on most UK standard forms of contract particularly the EEC form of contract.

Mike's recent experience includes:

acting for a multi-national provider of communications equipment on underground rail systems on two projects: in Arbitration under a bespoke contract and preparing claims for rejected compensation events for adjudication under NEC3.

advising a national provider of civil, electrical and utility services in the options available for dispute resolution under a bespoke contract including the drafting of a claim for additional monies and rectification of contract terms;

acting for a UK Joint Venture in relation to the CTRL project with particular emphasis on the options for dispute resolution and the preparation of disputes for adjudication based on deductions, disallowed costs and the administration of compensation events made under the NEC form of contract;

KEY STRENGTHS

Mike has experience across a range of sectors including transport, communications, defence, buildings and infrastructure projects and has worked on several occasions as part of large multi-disciplined project teams.  He is adept at implementing overall strategies and working to demanding deadlines.  Mike has an infomed approach to dispute resolution aided by a pragmatic and commercial approach to legal advice and drafting.  He has first class communication skills and excellent organisational and document management skills.
